King's Cross Central development maps

Client: Socrates Communications | February 2014 | Digital rendering
I was approached by Socrates Communications to produce a pair of detailed illustrated maps of the King's Cross area in London for their client, the developer of the Plimsoll Building, a new apartment block in the middle of the redevelopment area. The maps are for use in promotional brochures and publicity. The client requested that the maps employ a visual language and colour scheme reminiscent of a nautical chart, and the design process was assisted by a variety of architects' plans of the site and surrounding area.

Map #1, showing the whole King's cross district with the redevelopment site concentrated in the area bordered by the canal, the railway viaduct and York Way.

Detail of the redevelopment area with the Plimsoll Building at the left. The Granary Building on the right houses the new Central St. Martins College campus.

Detail of St Pancras International and King's Cross stations.

Map #2, showing a closer detailed area immediately surrounding the Plimsoll Building.

Detail showing the outline of the Plimsoll Building and the detail of the decking on the building's roof and the paving and landscaping on the ground.

The front cover of the promotional hardback book which contains the maps.
