Butlins Resort Maps

Client: Bourne Leisure | March-September 2017 | Adobe Illustrator
In 2017 I was commissioned by Bourne Leisure, the owners of the famous British holiday resort chain Butlins, to design vector-based, isometric maps for each of their resorts - Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness - for a new app for visitors. They were drawn entirely using Adobe Illustrator and were designed to be fully interactive, easily navigable and geographically accurate, with georeferencing applied by the app developers Hi Mum! Said Dad for accurate GPS data. The brief also required that they be bright, colourful and retro in appearance to match their new branding. Another key feature of the app reveals itself when the user zooms into each map: the central Pavilion roof 'opens' to reveal the shop and restaurant layout beneath, and the names and unit numbers of each accommodation block appear.

The new app was launched in early 2018 and is available here on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/butlins/id452270230?mt=8

Below is a sequence of images showing details of each resort map and screenshots of the maps in use in the app.
